Enter your dry weight and your weight before dialysis to see your weight gain in kg, lb and as a percentage of your dry weight.
Your care team sets your targets. Bring this number to your next session.
Interdialytic weight gain (IDWG) is the weight you gain between the end of one dialysis session and the start of the next. Most of it is fluid, which is why it is weighed at every session. This calculator subtracts your dry weight — the weight your care team has set for you after dialysis — from your weight before dialysis, and shows the difference in kilograms, pounds and as a percentage of your dry weight.
The percentage makes the number comparable between people of different sizes, which is why it is often used in clinic. The calculator only shows the number; it does not judge it.
Use the same scale each time if you can, at a similar time of day, in similar clothing, after using the toilet and before eating or drinking. Home scales and clinic scales can read slightly differently, so compare readings from the same scale. Writing the number down after each weigh-in makes it easy to share with your care team.
